controversy.

i'm not sure which to begin with- that I think these photos are beautiful, or that I think they're inappropriate.  because both are completely valid statements. i'm not much of a photo buff- but I can say that i think these pictures are of high professional quality. as a viewer, i was digging the black and white contrast as well as the whole laid back, tom cruise in risky business look. HOWEVER, the smoking thing is very problematic. in this era where we claim to be so ADVANCED, shouldn't our media not be advertising a deadly substance in such an attractive manner? i say "attractive" because honestly, this girl looks hot. hate to say it, but for some reason the film/tv/photo industry have a way of making smoking look so sexy. it's awful and interesting and mind blowing; we don't see bikini ads with girls tanning in tanning beds, do we?

  1. I hate that cigarettes still look "cool." They don't deserve to be glamorized, but yet they still are... although, when are fashion editorials ever fair? (Under-representing minority models, under-representing plus-size models, etc.)

  2. i don't get your bikini-tanning bed analogy at the end. care to elaborate?

  3. of course-it didn't really make much sense. what i meant is that both tanning beds and cigarettes are known to cause cancer. however, we see ads promoting cigarettes all the time in the fashion world, whereas we don't see them promoting tanning beds. it wasn't a great point, just something that sort of popped in my head.
